Boston Globe 'Project Prom Competition'

Boston Globe's 'Project Prom': Competition Overview

This was The Boston Globe’s answer to the hit TV show Project Runway. They ran a contest searching for four prom dress designs and I was picked as one of the four finalists. I wanted to design something that was opposite the average cake-like puffy dress, and was drawn to the idea of creating an elongated, statuesque sort of look. I wanted a dress that looked more “red carpet” than “school dance” as to me the prom represents the first adult gala in a girl’s life. I was awarded a $500 gift card to Fabric Place so that I could produce the gown (and spend a little bit on myself, too)
